Benefits Of Using Papaya For Skin Care

Many of us are familiar about the benefits of using papaya on our skin because of our mothers and grandmothers. We often see them rubbing papaya peels and leftover papaya slices on their skin for its anti-ageing and moisturizing properties.

This is why it is pleasantly surprising to see that now papaya is also being recognized in natural and organic skin care for the same reasons.

SKIN BENEFITS OF EATING PAPAYA

  • It improves digestion
Research suggests that eating papaya promotes digestive health and aids in elimination. A healthy digestion and clean colon ensure that our skin remains clear from congestion and breakouts.
  • It promotes blood purification
Potassium in papaya supports kidney function by clearing accumulated toxins and reducing uric acid in the blood. This helps to improve skin clarity.
  • It is anti-inflammatory
The fruit and leaves of papaya soothe and cool skin inflammation and irritation. They also promote skin repair and wound healing.
  • It has anti-ageing properties
The nutrient composition of papaya helps in preventing age-related skin degeneration while promoting collagen synthesis in the skin.
  • It regulates gut health
Papaya is rich in fiber and water which prevents constipation. Consuming papaya also increases iron absorption in the body which aids in healthy gut function.
  • It improves complexion
Papain enzyme present in papaya promotes blood circulation in the body which helps to even skin tone and improve complexion.
  • It is rich in antioxidants
Naturally occurring flavonoids found in papaya protect the skin against free radical damage caused by pollution, stress and ageing.
  • It is rich in Vitamin C
Papaya is one of the richest sources of Vitamin C which is an essential nutrient for reducing hyperpigmentation, boosting glow and repairing tissue damage.
  • It is rich in Vitamin A
Papaya contains a significant amount of provitamin A which boosts our immune system and eyesight, prevents age spots and reduces freckles.
  • It is rich in Vitamin E
Papaya is abundant in Vitamin E which prevents premature ageing of skin and hair, and improves the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.
  • It is anti-microbial in nature
Papain enzyme present in papaya fruit is known to provide anti-bacterial and anti-fungal benefits which help to minimize acne and infections.
  • It protects against sun damage
Carotenoids like beta-carotene and lycopene found in papaya not only give the flesh its orange hue, but also protect our skin against sun damage and oxidation.

HOME REMEDIES FOR USING PAPAYA FOR SKIN

  • DIY papaya anti-ageing facial mask
    1. Wash and peel a papaya. Slice a piece of it and mash it up in a bowl using the back of a fork. Add 2 drops of our Cold Pressed Rosehip Seed Oil to it and mix well to get a smooth paste. Apply this paste on clean skin.
    2. Massage the paste on your face and neck gently for a few seconds, and then leave the paste on your skin for 20 - 30 minutes.
    3. Rinse with lukewarm water and pat your skin dry with a soft towel.

The papaya pulp will provide anti-aging benefits and moisturizing properties to your skin. And Rosehip Seed Oil will reduce the appearance of scarring, hyperpigmentation and sun damage.

  • DIY papaya skin brightening scrub
    1. Take 1 tablespoon of chickpea flour in a clean bowl. Add enough fresh papaya pulp to it to make it into a spreadable paste-like consistency.
    2. Apply this paste on your face and neck, and leave it to dry. Wet your skin with water, and rinse off the paste while massaging gently.

Chickpea flour is a natural cleansing agent and also softens skin texture. Papain enzyme present in papaya naturally exfoliates skin and removes dead skin cells while promoting bright and even skin tone.

THINGS TO NOTE WHILE USING REMEDIES WITH PAPAYA FOR SKIN

DO’S –

  • Substitute chickpea flour with oat flour to soothe sensitive skin.
  • Half the papaya pulp can also be substituted with our Bulgarian Rose Water as it is clinically proven to improve skin tone and brighten complexion.
  • Remember to tone and moisturize your skin after masking to complete the regime.
  • Patch test any new DIY recipe on your inner arm before applying it on your face.
  • Discontinue using the product if you see any redness or sensitivity.

DON’TS –

  • Papaya is exfoliating in nature, so refrain from using papaya based home remedies on your skin daily. Stick to it once or twice a week.
  • Do not rub your skin excessively while removing masks from your face. It leads to skin tugging and irritation.
  • Do not use stale papaya for masking. Natural ingredients work best when they are fresh and potent.
  • Do not forget to be consistent with your chosen remedy and routine. Natural ingredients often work slowly, but steadily.
