Frizzy Hair In Men: Causes, Remedies And Prevention

Natural remedies to prevent frizzy hair in men

Our hair follicles contain sebaceous glands that produce an oily substance called sebum to keep our hair and scalp naturally nourished and protected from damage. When the natural oils are not able to reach hair ends, it may cause dryness and frizzy hair in men and women.
Men with naturally curly or rough hair are more prone to frizz and hair fall. Let’s understand more about the reasons behind frizzy hair, and how to prevent it using natural remedies.

  • Excess cleansing
Frequent hair washing may lead to dehydration which may cause frizz in your hair and flakiness on your scalp.
  • Unsuitable water quality
Using chlorinated water or hard water to rinse your hair causes it to become brittle. Using hot water for shampoo also leads to dryness and frizz.
  • Incompatible hair products
Using hair products and following routines that do not match the needs of your scalp and hair may create an oil imbalance leading to frizzy hair.
  • Environmental factors
Ultraviolet radiation and extreme weather conditions like cold and chilly winds may dehydrate hair strands further. Humidity in the air may end up making your hair look frizzy.
  • Excessive hair treatments
Frequent colouring, hair treatments, and blow drying are common causes of hair damage. They make the texture of your hair look dry and frizzy.
  • Lifestyle stressors
Improper eating habits, sleep deprivation, smoking, stress, hormonal changes, etc. eventually start affecting your hair quality. They also cause damage to hair follicles.

  • Follow a suitable hair care routine
Following a hair care routine designed with products that match the requirements of your hair, balances the natural oils and prevents frizz.
For example, a suitable hair care routine for hair that is prone to frizz may include using a gentle and non-stripping shampoo, followed by an organic hair conditioner that is enriched with nourishing plant oils and nut butters.
  • Inculcate healthy hair habits
If your scalp gets oily sooner, try using an organic dry shampoo instead of washing your hair everyday. Prefer air-drying your hair naturally instead of blow-drying. Use lukewarm water for rinsing your hair post shampoo. Pat your hair gently with a soft t-shirt for drying. Refrain from trying out new hair treatments till your hair is restored to a healthier state.
  • Lead a wholesome lifestyle
Eat home-cooked meals made with nourishing ingredients like nuts, seeds, fleshy fruits and root vegetables. Practise mindfulness throughout your day. Indulge in weekly massages for promoting skin and scalp health.

  • DIY nourishing oil therapy –
According to a study, oiling your hair and massaging your scalp prevents moisture loss in hair strands, thereby preventing frizz. It also decreases the chances of getting split ends and hair breakage.
In a clean and dry bowl, take 1 tablespoon each of our cold pressed castor oil and cold pressed argan oil. Take a bigger bowl and fill it up with hot water. Place the bowl with your oil blend on the hot water to warm up the oils slightly. You may even add other Juicy Chemistry carrier oils to this blend for added benefits.
Use this blend to massage your scalp and nourish your hair strands. You may also leave the oils in your hair as an overnight conditioning treatment.
  • DIY hydrating hair serum –
According to a study, fine and straight hair holds sebum very well, but curly or coarse hair tangles and breaks easily. The use of conditioning oils, and leave-in serums can decrease friction and make hair easier to comb. It can also prevent static and frizz that come with dry combing.
In a clean and dry bowl, add equal parts of our cold pressed argan oil and cold pressed hemp seed oil. Add one drop each of our Lavender and Rosemary Essential Oils to the bowl, and mix well.
Cleanse your hair with a gentle shampoo, and pat it dry with a soft t-shirt. When your hair is still moist, apply a few drops of the prepared oil mixture to your hair ends for preventing moisture loss. Let your hair air-dry as usual.

Note – Patch test the prepared oil blend on your inner arm to test for sensitivity and redness, before applying it to your scalp or hair.

  1. How often should we wash our hair with Juicy Chemistry shampoos?
While less cleansing may lead to scalp build-up, excess cleansing may cause dehydration. Hence, we recommend cleaning your scalp and hair 2-3 times a week, depending on your lifestyle and environment.
  2. How to make the most of our oiling experience?
Allow our organic hair oils to get absorbed into your hair for a couple of hours before shampoo. You may also wrap a warm towel on your head after oiling to create a steam treatment for your hair. This method also allows hair oils to penetrate better.
