What Exactly Are Organic Deodorants?
Organic deodorants, as implied by their name, are formulated using ingredients that are grown organically, including natural clays, and are completely devoid of ALUMINUM, a typical component found in many commercial deodorants and antiperspirants. Because they do not contain aluminum, our organic deodorants do not obstruct your sweat glands, allowing your underarms to remain dry while supporting the natural elimination of toxins from your body. Instead, they promote the expulsion of toxins from your skin without any unpleasant odors.

Your body produces two distinct types of sweat from two separate glands: Eccrine and Apocrine. The sweat released by Eccrine glands consists primarily of water and salt, serving the sole purpose of cooling the body and is typically odorless. In contrast, Apocrine glands generate what is known as ‘Stress Sweat,’ which can be found in areas such as your feet, groin, and armpits.
Stress sweat contains additional protein molecules alongside water and salt. The naturally occurring bacteria present in your armpits feed on these proteins, and as they break down, they transform your otherwise scentless sweat into an unpleasant odor.
To combat this, commercial deodorants or antiperspirants work by blocking sweat pores, which prevents sweating and consequently traps toxins within the body.
Our organic deodorants, however, take a different approach. They facilitate the elimination of toxins by not obstructing your sweat ducts and preventing excessive bacterial growth. This allows for the natural neutralization of body odor, keeping you feeling fresh throughout the day.
The Detox Phase
When you transition to organic deodorants after a long period of using commercial products, you might initially appreciate how they mask body odor. However, as time goes on, you may find that your body odor becomes more pronounced. This is an indication that your skin is undergoing a “detox.” Essentially, your body is adjusting to the absence of proper sweating that was previously hindered by clogged pores. This is a natural process for flushing out toxins from your system.
How long does this detox phase last? It can take your body up to 30 days to recalibrate and relearn how to sweat naturally. Here’s a breakdown of what to expect:
Week 1: You may enjoy the way the natural fragrance masks body odor, and you might not experience any noticeable body odor or excessive sweating during this time. This is likely due to the aluminum compounds in your previous antiperspirant forming a gel-like plug that restricts underarm pores, preventing sweating.
Week 2: This week is when you may start to notice body odor and increased sweating. Don’t be alarmed; this is simply your body’s method of expelling toxins.
Week 3: By the third week, you might observe a reduction in odor and possibly less sweating as well. (Your sweating may still be significant, or it could decrease; it all depends on your individual body.)
Week 4: By the conclusion of the fourth week, your body should have fully adapted to the organic deodorant!
Keep in mind that this process can vary from person to person, and you may not experience the changes in a weekly pattern as described. Some individuals may take longer to adjust, while others might adapt to organic deodorants right from day one. During the detox phase, it’s advisable to avoid wearing overly tight or form-fitting clothing. Additionally, steer clear of synthetic fabrics and opt for more organic materials instead. Allow your body to breathe!

Can Organic Deodorants Cause Skin Irritation?
Given that the underarm area is quite sensitive, you may encounter rashes or irritation under certain circumstances:
- If you apply an excessive amount or rub it in too forcefully.
- Your own sweat can lead to irritation, similar to chafing that occurs in hot and humid conditions when your thighs rub against each other. The same can happen in your underarms.
- Applying deodorant immediately after waxing or shaving can cause stinging, as the skin is particularly sensitive at that time due to tiny tears from razors or other hair removal methods. It’s advisable to shave at night and apply deodorant in the morning, allowing your armpits to heal overnight.
- It’s also possible that your skin may react negatively to a specific ingredient or essential oils. If you develop a rash for this reason, discontinue use of the product. Always perform a patch test beforehand to prevent this.
Rashes and irritations are not common when transitioning to organic deodorants. Our products are dermatologically tested for safety and irritation, but if you have sensitive skin, please conduct a patch test prior to use.
Can Organic Deodorants Leave Stains on Clothing?
When you first begin using our organic deodorants, applying too much may result in stains on light-colored garments. To prevent this, ensure that you use only a small amount of product and massage it well into your skin for complete absorption. Apply it daily after your shower. If you need to reapply throughout the day, remember to follow the same process :)
Switching to an organic deodorant may seem challenging at first, but the benefits are well worth it. Our organic deodorants are free from aluminum, alcohol, and preservatives, and are made from 100% organic ingredients.
