Juicy chemistry to organise first-ever pop-up show
Juicy Chemistry organises its first-ever pop-up show to highlight the benefits of using organic beauty products Few years ago, when Pritish Asher checked the label of a cosmetic product, he was shocked at the list of ingredients. While the front label claimed herbs and other skin-friendly ingredients, hidden in the back, was a loaded list of artificial ingredients — sulphate, parabens, and various petrochemicals. “As my family business deals with petroleum products and chemicals, I could understand the hazards of applying it on skin everyday. That was when I decided to provide effective skin care products formulated with nutrient-rich ingredients Nature has to offer,” says Pritesh, who launched Juicy Chemistry in 2014. From then, Coimbatore-based Pritesh and his wife Megha, started researching on various natural ingredients and understood their properties to develop formulations. –
Juicy Chemistry’s skincare products now come with a globally recognised organic certificate
When not travelling the world to source raw materials for their brand Juicy Chemistry, entrepreneurs Pritesh and Megha Asher have been working towards educating customers on the benefits of using a completely organic skincare range. “We believe in making the customer fully aware of what goes into the products that they are spending on. Most brands claim to be organic, but more times than not that isn’t entirely the case,” says co-founder Pritesh. Born out of a need to create something 100 per cent natural and handcrafted, this skincare line is constantly innovating and recently received their certification from Ecocert, the very first international certification body to develop standards for “natural and organic cosmetics.” “India does not have a standard for organic cosmetics, which is why we decided to approach Ecocert for a certification — a process that has been on for almost a year,” he shares. Rooted in the concept of using and sourcing raw materials from their native regions, the husband and wife duo extensively work with certified distributors from across the globe. Key ingredients like olive oil is sourced from France, while tea tree water and oil are imported from Australia, tamanu, shea and cocoa butter from Africa, baobab from Senegal and helichrysum from Croatia. “We use 350 ingredients for 120 products that are available on shelves. Each of the ingredients that we use has healing or special properties. Like the Kakadu plum, that is a fruit which is native to northern Australia.” The fruit has 100 times more Vitamin C than an orange, has exceptional anti-oxidant composition and is used in the brand’s hydrating face mask.–
Meet the husband-wife duo from Coimbatore who founded Juicy Chemistry to bust the myth of labs being better than Mother Nature
The past decade has seen one word rise like the phoenix – organic – and one phrase flung at every instance – read the label. But these words are often used in the health, nutrition, and fitness context. If you’ve ever tired reading the (extremely complex) label of a cream, shampoo, or a lotion, and had the perseverance to Google search the ingredients, you’re in for a rude realisation of how we’re happily being swindled in the name of ‘natural’, ‘organic’, ‘pure’, etc. It was a routine Sunday visit to the mall. While pretending to help my wife with the chores, I was approached by a sales person with a brand new all natural beauty product launched into the market. While checking the product, a few of the ingredients caught my attention as we used them as raw material in our manufacturing processes at our petroleum products plant. All I could think of was the oxymoron, where the front of the label was screaming natural and organic, but the label behind was hushing preservatives, parabens, mineral oils, synthetic colours, perfumes and more. –

Going au naturel
Juicy Chemistry, an organic skincare line, promises simple ingredients that are not only good for the skin but also for the environment Going organic is quite the trend these days. We are particular about organic food and lifestyle, but what we often neglect is what we are slathering on our faces. According to Megha and Pritesh Asher, who started Juicy Chemistry, a 100 per cent natural, hand-crafted skincare line, there is a gamut of simple ingredients like organic brown sugar, rice flour, raw forest honey and turmeric that can do wonders for us. Interestingly, Megha is a criminologist and Pritesh, a manufacturer. What then led the Coimbatore-based couple to launch their label last August? “It was genuine concern. There are chemicals in products that claim to be natural. Even kids use them — they love shower gels which consist of chemicals and plastic beads. Personally, my skin was breaking out. I searched the markets for natural products, but it was of no use. Finally, one day, Pritesh came up with something that worked for my skin. And that’s how everything started,” says Megha at Goli Soda’s Greendezvous event. –
